Qualifications and Experience

Academia
I have successfully gained a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science, Leisure and Coaching; PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training with Fellowship Status and a MSc in Strength and Conditioning. In addition, I have had 12 years experience working in Education in Lecturing and Programme Lead Positions. My current FT role is as a Lecturer in Sports Rehabilitation at Undergraduate level and Strength & Conditioning at MSc Level with the University of Bolton, where I have been for the last 4 years. My key areas of interest are within Applied Physiology, Athlete Workload Monitoring and Prevention of Injury. Furthermore, I commenced my PhD with Liverpool John Moores in the Summer of 2021 with the areas of research focusing on evaluating current athlete training status, and measuring Neuromuscular Adaptation with professional footballers. The first major body of work will be to run a reliability study across a number of screening tests to determine the practicality and accuracy of these ahead of addressing sensitivity to load and how well they can track adaptation. This will naturally support and enhance the literature to better inform applied clinical and performance related practitioners.

Elite Coaching
Having had over 15 years experience coaching in Academy and Semi-Professional Football I have worked with some of the countries most exciting talent. Some of the clubs include Chester City, Manchester United, Manchester City, Oldham Athletic and Blackburn Rovers. I have also held responsibilities working for the Football Association and I have been fortunate with 5 years coaching experience in the US with MLS Teams including SJ Earthquakes. I have held a good balance of coaching within both the men’s and women’s game. I currently hold all FA Youth Modules as well as the UEFA B and UEFA A Licences in Coaching Football. I have a strong understanding of the technical, tactical, physiological, biomechanical and psychosocial demands of the game which I can comfortably filter into my delivery. More importantly, my interpersonal skills and qualities of organisation and communication enable my athletes to develop professional working relationships with me. My academic understanding supplements my football specific qualities and naturally allows me to transfer evidenced-based theory into practice especially around position specific demands. As part of any process I aim to structure and plan accordingly for the purpose of the service provision. With this in mind, I ensure that within my 1:1 and small group sessions there is realism, specificity and a large focus on psychological stimulation.

Sport Science and Strength & Conditioning
Since the completion of my BSc I have been fortunate to hold roles in the UK and the USA working as part of athletic talent camps, academies and athlete development centres in a performance analysis and sports science capacities. I have a profound knowledge and understanding of physiological and biomechanical screening and testing within both lab-based and pitch based environments. I have been fortunate to work with athletes across a number of sports including Football, Athletics and Gymnastics. In terms of Strength & Conditioning, I have provided personal services to athletes across a number of sports including football, running and cycling. I hold strong appreciation of the demands of Football and as I continue to design and implement strategic athletic programmes for Footballers across varied levels, I ensure I cater for the individuals training status and position specific technical, tactical and metabolic demands. I also hold the Level 2 Coaching Certificate in British Weightlifting which allows me to implement comprehensive techniques and derivatives around Olympic Weightlifting into my periodised plans during the off-season in order to enhance relative physiological adaptation. Furthermore, having a unique skill set in Human Anatomy and Applied Physiology, I have substantial knowledge of the epidemiology and aetiology of football related injuries which assists in my injury prevention strategies. A focus of mine is to identify the right approach to ensure athletes receive an individualised yet rigorous training programme. To ensure this occurs, I follow the most recent evidenced-based research and consider the holistic profile of the athlete via a comprehensive needs analysis.
